This sensitive renovation project in the Colinton Conservation Area of Edinburgh involves the transformation of a Grade B listed property on Bonaly Road. The design, developed by MDA Studio, skillfully blends contemporary architecture with the historic character of the original building.

At the heart of the proposal is the removal of an outdated conservatory and the introduction of a striking new extension. This modern addition will re-use elements of the original stonework while incorporating bold, light-filled interiors and high-performance glazing. The result is a bright, spacious living and dining space designed to enhance comfort and functionality year-round.

A new utility room will be introduced as part of the reconfigured layout, improving flow between the main house and the existing outbuildings. The design prioritises natural light, thermal performance, and circulation while respecting the architectural integrity of the listed structure.

The project exemplifies MDA Studio’s approach to conservation-led residential architecture—merging historic sensitivity with modern family living. Construction is expected to commence in late 2025.
