House extension and renovation in Morningside, Edinburgh

This house extension and renovation project in Morningside, Edinburgh, began with a property untouched for over 40 years. Working closely with the new owners, we reimagined the home as a bright, modern family residence, transforming it inside and out while retaining its original character.

The existing structure was preserved, but a new rear extension was introduced to create a spacious, open-plan living area filled with natural light. We carefully reworked the internal layout to improve flow and functionality, bringing the home in line with contemporary family life.

Externally, the house was fully rendered and re-clad, with a new slate roof replacing the original red tiles — enhancing insulation and giving the home a clean, updated identity. Every design decision was guided by the desire to respect the building’s past while preparing it for the future.

To meet current energy efficiency standards, we installed underfloor heating and added full insulation throughout, while optimising glazing to maximise natural light. The result is a warm, energy-efficient, and stylish home that feels entirely renewed — while still rooted in its traditional Edinburgh setting.
