Conservation Area House Renovation, Eskbank, Midlothian

This bespoke home renovation project involved the sensitive transformation of a traditional property within the Eskbank Conservation Area in Midlothian. MDA Studio worked closely with the homeowners to upgrade the existing layout while preserving key architectural details and respecting local planning constraints.

We introduced contemporary alterations to enhance day-to-day functionality, including the redesign of the kitchen, improved spatial flow between living areas, and careful modernisation of interior finishes. The intervention was designed to balance old and new—celebrating the home’s original charm while making it fit for modern family life.

Natural light was maximised through strategic openings and glazing upgrades, and new materials were selected to subtly contrast yet complement the traditional fabric of the house. The final result is a timeless and beautifully crafted home that sits comfortably within its historic setting.
