Listed Building House Extension in Colinton, Edinburgh

This listed building house extension in Colinton, Edinburgh, showcases our studio’s ability to balance contemporary design with sensitive conservation. Located on Barnshot Road within the Colinton Conservation Area, the project focused on transforming a Grade C listed property into a light-filled, modern family home — while preserving its architectural character.

The design replaces an outdated conservatory with a striking new rear extension that integrates seamlessly with the original stonework. A new contemporary zinc clad extension with expansive full-height glazing brings in natural light and opens up views to the garden.

Internally, the extension accommodates a generous open-plan kitchen and living space. A new utility room enhances practicality for everyday family life. The design reconfigures the existing layout to improve flow and functionality, creating a home that feels both welcoming and timeless.
