House Extension and attic conversion - Leadervale - Edinburgh

This architect-designed home extension and attic conversion in Leadervale, Edinburgh, transformed a traditional house into a light-filled, modern family home. Our team at MDA Studio carried out a full reconfiguration of the internal layout, creating a clear line of sight from front to back and allowing natural light to flow throughout the ground floor.

To the rear, we redesigned the existing footprint with a contemporary upgrade of an existing house extension, adding large aluminium sliding doors and vertical timber cladding. These materials not only connected the kitchen-dining area seamlessly with the garden but also introduced warmth and contrast to the modernised exterior.

Upstairs, a full attic conversion provided two new bedrooms and a stylish bathroom, creating a flexible and comfortable space for a growing family or visiting guests. Every design decision balanced form with function, ensuring the home was both practical and beautifully finished.

This Edinburgh house extension is a great example of how considered architecture can unlock the potential of existing homes — enhancing space, flow, and everyday living. The project was delivered in close collaboration with trusted local contractors and craftsmen.
