This new-build family home in Rosewell is the result of a rewarding journey that spanned the challenges of both the Covid pandemic and the Brexit transition.
Originally designed by David Blaikie Architects, I was brought on board post-planning, after the client purchased the plot with consent already in place. To better suit the family’s needs, we revisited the planning process — reworking the layout to create a larger kitchen and dining area, a utility room, a home study, and reconfigured bedrooms and bathrooms.
The site also included a listed Doocot, which meant navigating listed building consent alongside the planning amendments. From there, we secured building warrant approval and supported the full build on site.
It was a long but fulfilling process, and the result is a well-considered, flexible home that fits the family perfectly. I’m proud to have supported them throughout their self-build journey.
